let s dig deeper into the president s mission of chaos for the 2020 democratic primary fight. joining me now, republican strategist allure stewart, former communications director for senator ted cruz s campaign. she s been on the other side of president trump s chaos at a different time in her life. and attorney and former south carolina house member. bacari, let s talk about this plan to sew division among democrats. does that sound vaguely familiar? isn t that what bernie sanders did to hillary clinton in 2016? well, i can t just put all of the blame on bernie sanders. in fact, i think there were a few parties at fault. of course, you had russian meddling which we know to be a fact, we had the sanders campaign which was amplified, many of the bots and messaging so the discourse and division was amplified by that russian meddling. you also had democrats who to our own fault suk came to a lot of disinformation when many times we should have just gone out and found out this
americans. let me say bacari is the correct on the numbers, the problem with democrats is the president is won by electoral college and not popular vote. but look at the shift we have seen in the democratic party in 2018, we had more moderate democrats like claire mccaskill or joe donnelly. they re no longer there. democratic voters did not come out and support them. in exchange we re seeing the party shift further to the left, and kamala harris may not like the title but if the shoe fits, wear it. the policies many of them are embracing and supporting and not running away from are the socialist policies that don t work in other countries and if they want to push those here, it s not going to be a winning formula in 2020. we have to see what the voters have to say. we have a year to talk about this so i m sure we ll have this conversation many times more between now and then. alice stewart and bacari sellers, thank you very much for being here. appreciate it. a quick programming
democratic house member from south carolina bacari sellers. welcome to both of you. what has struck me among democrats i spoke to another today, david price in north carolina who says he s open to money for a border barrier of some sort. bob casey said that on our show yesterday. john tester has said that in public. is it becoming clear that democrats are going to vote for some money for a barrier here? i think it s going to be part of a comprehensive package. what you will not have is $5.6 billion for this president s own kind of sacrifice to himself. what you re going to see is a full package of immigration measures making sure that we take care of individuals on daca or daca recipients, making sure we have smart innovative ways which we patrol our border. what we have to do a better job of is making sure that the american public know and understand that we are in favor
reporter: erin, you could tell when the president was talking about this yesterday, he was visibly frustrated. this is a guy that ran on draining the swamp and a cabinet secretary is spending thousands and thousands of dollars on private jets. he s making moves to remedy it, but again, he s paying for his own seat on the charter planes, not the entirety of the tabitha taxpayers are stuck with. we will see if it is enough to pass by the president. thank you, sarah. i want to go to former presidential candidate santorum along with bacari sellers. bacar, we just learned it s $1 million in private jet travels for secretary price, not 400, 0 $400,0 $400,000, 1 million. the secretary is writing a check for $52,000. should he be fired?
is. so, it s safe to say tweet storms are definitely donald trump s thing. john? despite the fact he denied doing it the other day. kaitlan collins at the white house, thank you so much. joining me now, john phillips and bacari sellers and betsy woodruff. they have been uting out statements, everything is okay, man are we getting along. but the president, this morning, doesn t want to let by gones be by gones. millions of people can read them, one criticizing mitch mcconnell and now for obamacare. what are we to make of it? what we should make of this is september is going to be a potential nightmare for republicans on capitol hill. the president s relationship with congressional membership
