Modern judo, at the elite end of the spectrum, houses a number of countries as it’s furniture. We expect Japan, France, Brazil, Georgia and perhaps Mongolia, Germany, Netherlands and Korea. Cuba used to be there, 15-20 years ago but have seen a steep decline in performance; Andy Granda is attempting to rectify that.
On 12 October 2022, the 2023 World Judo Championships flag was handed over to the state of Qatar, the next host country of the event, at a momentous handover ceremony in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Day 6 of the 2022 Judo World Championships proved to be just as thrilling as day 5, as Muzaffarbek Turoboyev won the host nation their second gold medal in two days and became an instant Uzbek hero. And Brazil’s veteran, Mayra Aguiar, claimed her third World Title and her first in five years.
Today the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, H.E. Abdulla Nigmatovich Aripov, officially opened the World Championships Tashkent 2022, accompanied by the IJF President, Mr Marius Vizer.
