Hudson Reporter Art House Productions Celebrates Artists with Disabilities for Virtual Access JC Fridays on June 4, 2021   2 / 4    4 / 4  ❮   2 / 4    4 / 4  ❮ ❯ Art House Productions has announced “Virtual Access JC Fridays,” on Friday, June 4 at 6 – 9 p.m. online via Zoom. Jersey City’s premiere quarterly arts festival will showcase a variety of happenings including visual art exhibitions, music and dance performances, art demonstrations, and studio tours from 20 participating artists and organizations. The full event descriptions are available on www.jcfridays.com. Access JC Fridays aims to be inclusive and encourages participants to present work from artists with disabilities and/or work that celebrates disability in its many forms. 55% of the presenters are showcasing work from artists with disabilities in their segments.

He called for help and watched over the boy until he knew he’d get safely home. It was a small news story, with a happy ending. But it was the kind of incident that touches Azikiwe Mohammed, 37, an artist who, through different media painting, textiles, performative installations is interested in constructing spaces of safety and welcome for people of color and for immigrants whose space is often threatened.

How the Wide Awakes Art Collective Mobilized a Roving Food Truck to Serve Some of New York s Neediest Neighborhoods

In the wake of the 2020 US presidential election, art-world activist collective the Wide Awakes remains dedicated to its collaborative pursuit of greater justice, democracy, and welfare for all. To that end, members have launched the Wide Awakes Mobile Soup Kitchen, a food truck-cum-art project that serves free meals in some of New York City’s most vulnerable communities. Each Saturday this month, the truck is partnering with the Brooklyn Museum to serve different areas of the borough. It’s also bringing art to the public with a vehicle covered in artworks by Azikiwe Mohammed, Korakrit Arunanondchai, Yto Barrada, Jose De Jesus Rodriguez, and Shepard Fairey. It has served up some 3,500 meals to date.
