trump s disgusting lies about january 6th, which really looked like this, with death and destruction in the halls of the u.s. capitol. it was all part of a disastrous and embarrassing maga town hall hosted by cnn. which made only a half hearted effort to fact check him. and trump quite likely dug himself a deeper hole in the investigations he s facing. plus, breaking news. with the announcement late today of criminal charges in the choke hold death of jordan neely on the floor of a new york city subway train earlier this month. but we begin with donald trump, who by now you know was handed an opportunity to speak to his fans at a national audience last night on cnn. and it went about as well as you would expect because trump was who we already know he is, a liar, a narcissist, and a fascist. so it was an unmitigated disast in every way and a reckless insult to our democracy. it s completely fair to say we didn t need a town hall to find out what candidate trump thinks,
confident standing up to him after that? ron desantis is not even close to ready to deal with that. not even close. he has no personality. he couldn t even stand up to charlie crist when he gave him a hard time. this is it. or mickey mouse. or mickey mouse. i mean, no, i completely agree with michael about what a republican debate might look like, if trump bothers to take part in one. but let me say this about the people who people are angry about last night, people like you and i who care about the future of democracy and journalism and are embarrassed by what we saw, but yeah, ron desantis should be mad about last night, because donald trump did seal the deal. he didn t break a set. no moment last night, joy, when donald trump looked even 1% uncomfortable. you and i watched jonathan swan s axios interview for hbo. the only interview which has really held trump s feet to the fire. why? because jonathan came prepared, he took the right tone. he went deep.
saying, oh, maybe i need to i think they are watching because at this point it comes down to what this all leads to. so, how professor butler mentioned in the previous segment, if this leads to a referral for criminal charges. you can believe that those individuals who have been watching this from start to finish, because we all witnessed january, six there is a group of voters who are out there saying that the democrats don t get accountability here. then i am shutting down. so you better believe that people are in the middle are paying attention to this to see what type of accountability does yield from these investigations. because without that accountability, another of voters will be turning up and saying, hey, this was just an ineffective effort by democrats to do nothing that ultimately leads our democracy as vulnerable as it was on january 6th. as he is watching it unfold, i want to play this axios interview, with
collar president. thank you so much for being with us this morning. with this axios interview, you compared the president to chernobyl. something of a nuclear meltdown. then you went on to say a couple more weeks like this and country over party is going to require the republicans to replace the top of the ticket in 2020. a couple more weeks like this, you say. a couple more weeks like what? well, the last time i was in this chair with you, john, we were talking about the racially charged rhetoric that led to a whole twitter nonsense from the president and obviously he then left to go to the two shooting areas. and so now he comes back from the two shooting areas, that was a total catastrophe. the only thing he was doing in those areas was talking about himself and praising himself and crowd sizes. so it just one day after the next it gets worse and worse and worse. and in the meantime, as you know
unvarnished, some might say realistic remarks about the status of where these negotiations are going to go and how this deal might end up. i mean, remember the soaring rhetoric of deal of the century. the ultimate deal. this is very much creating the expectation, hey, the secretary understands this might be rejected. they re hoping that it isn t. but they re very much expecting that there could be a very, very angry response to this. in axios interview, jonathan swan pressed kushner on some of the actions his companies have taken in the region in the past, funding israeli settlements in the west bank, for example s. kushner at this point viewed as a credible intermediary in these talks? or is this simply something that, you know, the president wants to see? i mean, how serious are people taking jared kushner? i mean, he s not viewed as credible by the palestinians.
