good morning. and welcome to your new day. it is sunday, may 29th. we re grateful that you re starting your week with us. i m boris sanchez, live from uvalde, texas. i m christi paul. boris, there in uvalde, you ve seen people just even last hour at 5:00 a.m. where you are come out to that memorial that is behind you. and you re probably standing in a place where you re soon going to see at some point today president biden. potentially, yeah. you re right. president biden headed to uvalde, texas, coming to comfort grief-stricken community following the latest mass shooting in the united states. just a few hours from now, president biden set to visit this area and a memorial at robb elementary school where 19 students and 2 teachers were killed. in a commencement address delivered yesterday, the president spoke of the grief that the families here are experiencing. here is some of what he said. we re heading to uvalde, texas, to meet with each of those families. and as
children and their two teachers who were slaughtered inside their schools. the first lady reaching out to the images of the innocent, smiling. fourth graders who were murdered. the president caressing the face of one child s photo. just 12 days ago, mr. and mrs. biden were in buffalo, new york, to honor the 12 people murdered in a wasteless attack on a supermarket. yesterday, vice president horizon attended a gruesome funeral and across the country this weekend, there was an explosion of more gun violence. we need change! president biden accompanied by the republican governor of texas also faced frustration from people demanding gun reforms. one man explains why he was heckling. at a certain point in time it s going to be on us. because we vote these people in to represent us. they re not representing us. it s heart breaking. because things leak this happen. something needs to be done. we need change. we need help and my biggest fear is nothing is going to change. in si
still chief among the questions out there and why is the police department now backtracking on some of their basic findings? officials are going to be holding a briefing in texas in the next hour. let s begin though at this hour with cnn s rosa flores live in uvalde. rosa, what are you hearing from some of these children who managed to survive? reporter: well, kate, we are hearing about those intense moments when the shooter was inside the classroom, those intense moments when children were trying to do everything they could to survive. they describe the gunfire at first. they thought it was fireworks. you mentioned a little girl who covered herself in blood and played dead to try to survive, to make sure that she could do what she could do at that point in time to survive this terrible tragedy. but here they are, children describing what they lived through in their own words. take a listen. it was very terrifying. that didn t stop one of my friends getting hurt. i got
all around the world. it is wednesday, may 25th. i m john berman live in uvalde, texas. brianna keilar is in new york this morning. behind me is the robb elementary school. 19 children who went to school here are dead this morning, along with two adults. the kids second, third, fourth graders. we ve just learned the identity of two of the young victims, 10-year-old amerie jo garza has been identified by her father who spent seven hours trying to find his daughter in the wake of the shooting. he now says my little love is flying high with the angels above. we just learned that 10-year-old fourth grader xavier lopez passed away. his mother snapped this photo of him at an honor roll ceremony only a few hours before the shooting. she told the washington post he was funny, never serious, and his smile, that smile, i will never forget. it would always cheer anyone up. he really couldn t wait to go to middle school. she told him she was proud and that she loved him before hugging
