Police: Driver who ran red light dies in El Cajon crash

Print A driver was ejected and killed in a car crash in El Cajon Saturday morning, police said. The collision happened about 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Avocado Boulevard, said El Cajon police Lt. Jason Taub. The victim was driving a gray Volkswagen Beetle west on Main and appears to have run a red light, Taub said, based on witness accounts and a preliminary investigation of the scene. A burgundy Nissan was going north on Avocado on a green light and crashed into the Volkswagen in the intersection. The Volkswagen driver was ejected onto the street, while the Nissan crashed into a power box attached to a restaurant, police said.
