Going to say it until i get here. So i hope you will forgive me for the lack of visuals. My title is dreams nightmares and neglect. And im going to start earlier than 1783. Im going to start with the beginning of european exploration, the early part of the 17th century. So its going to be an almost 200year dream. And but it will go fast because im going to concentrate on what happened once the dream was realized. In 1607 john smith entered the sevenmile wide mouth of the Potomac River and headed north. Whether he got this far north we are actually not certain but the People Living here called the place petomek. It translates as a place to which something is brought, a trading place, a place to which tribute is brought. It was a beautiful area in which the tide water from the ocean stopped. The river narrowed and as you know north of georgetown its very different river. But here where georgetown was to rise there was a huge tidal marsh. And this is the origin of the swamp myth. Washingt
The government is nonessential. So heres a thought. If theyre nonessential, why not make them permanently nonessential. Shrink government, shrink spending. It would be bullish for the economy. All these stories and more coming up live on the kudlow report beginning right now. Good evening. Im larry kudlow. Were live here at 7 00 p. M. Eastern at 4 00 p. M. Pacific and our top story tonight, its day seven of the federal government not so shutdown shutdown. Shockingly president obama is still that the negotiating table, still refusing to sit down and compromise with republicans. Take a listen. We wont negotiate under the threat of a prolonged shutdown up republicans get 100 of what they want. Were not going to yoesh kuwagi under the threat of economic catastrophe that economists and ceos increasingly warned would result if congress chose to default on americas obligations. The president s message to republicans, do it my way and we can talk later. But john boehner fired right back this a
Guest that he could not raise the adequate amount of wheat that he wanted to. Because the government had decided they were going to control wheat plantings. And so what he said was, okay, then i can raise wheat for my chickens. And he took it all the way to the Supreme Court and lost that battle. Host why do you recount that story in the debt bomb . Guest because its a great example on the enumerated powers and the unwinding why do we find ourself in the place were in now . Howd we get here, what do by we do about it, and what are the ramifications . The greatest way for the government to make something expensive is for the government to make it affordable. And all you have to do is look at the programs. What were the average inflationary costs of health care before we created medicare and medicaid . They ran the same as every other aspect of our inflation. In other words, there was no differential between Health Care Costs. Now that we have a government program, what has happened is H
Willie, donald trump says on the 13th of april, privately of course, you dont have a chance. This is the plague and yet, this is, of course, the same president who was desperate to reopen the economy. I must say the same president who last night got a lot of people together in arizona with this plague that he also told bob woodward was so dangerous and deadly because it was airborne this is a plague that donald trump, obviously, understood about a long time ago and yet he was trying to open schools, trying to open the economy at the same time he was saying that behind closed doors, and, of course, hes still having superspreader events where most of the people there are not Wearing Masks. So that was april 13th, the clip we played, that was a monday he was talking to bob woodward what was the day before that april 12th was easter. The date he had circled on the calendar to reopen everything. We want to reopen by easter, get back play baseball, going back for easter the next day hes call
Reckoning is looming. An article of impeachment is expected monday unless the president resigns, of course. Even some republicans say he went too far. I have to say i do think the president s behavior this week does disqualify him from serving, but weve got ten days left, 11 days left. He is not going to be serving after that time. One of the things that im concerned about frankly is whether the house would completely politicize something. I do think the president committed impeachable offenses but i dont know what is going to land on the senate floor, if anything. Now, the lives of Vice President pence, his family and u. S. Lawmakers were imperiled by wednesdays riot. Sources telling cnn the president and pence havent spoken since that day. Extraordinary. Weve also learned that pence will attend joe bidens inauguration and he has also reserved the right to invoke the 25th amendment as a last resort. Five people died in the carnage including a Capitol Hill Police officer yet the white
