as that is, with our doubt and our fears, let us turn to him. let us ask him for the hope that we need to see in the midst of this darkness a new day dawning here in our community of aurora. in the wake of a tragedy like this, the conversation often turns to moving on, to getting back to our daily lives. but the gospel speaks comforting words in this time of sorrow and tells us very clearly, blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. and thank you for the banner in the back, angels walk with those who grieve. [ applause ] let us mourn for those who have perished, let us grieve for the loved ones who mourn their lives. in our mourning, our lord who is the great comforter is truly present to us but we do not grief live like those who have hope. we grieve that neither life nor death can separate us from his abundant love. his abundant love is our consolation. [ applause ] and so we return to our lives, let us see in this tragedy a reminder that our lives are fleet
very, very mellow. jamie: dr. henry cloud is the author of necessary endings an ironic title because this wasn t necessary. doctor, first of all, as our hearts go out to the victims and all the people in the aurora community, how will they heal? well, i think that that s just the big focus now. you know, it s not only the people who were there, but having gone through this in that region previously, the way that post traumatic stress happens, it takes a symbolic reminder. so i think we have the victims who were in the theater and their families and loved ones, which you have an entire community. there are several points that i think that everyone needs to focus on. number 1; the most important thing in the aftermath is for people to get together. you know, the way that our traumatized brain settles down,
some public comments in a few minutes and we will have that for you live of course on cnn. the president is going to speak not long before a citywide gathering of people here in aurora. they will pray, they will honor the people killed, and they will be together. at the scene where the people of aurora are beginning to gather right now. take us there. what is expected to happen where you are later? reporter: well, in about 90 minutes, this prayer vigil will begin. we re already beginning to see people gather in this rather large square. if you look behind me, you can see there are chairs set up and people are standing around this area. there is a stage set up. a podium. what we are expecting to hear today is a community trying to come to grips with what has happened. trying to moveeyond the actual shooting and work on becoming a community of healing. we re expecting to hear from the governor, the mayor, as well as victims. victims families, people who were inside there. sh
