As many as 1,48,203 objections have been filed at Aurangabad Divisional Commissioner Office so far against the Maharashtra government’s decision to rename Aurangabad – a city in Marathwada region of Maharashtra that has a historical significance.
A Bench headed by Acting Chief Justice SV Gangapurwala refused to grant an immediate stay on the cabinet decision to rename the two cities, as the same was yet to be approved by the Central government.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday said the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government's decision to rename Aurangabad city when it had been reduced to minority was illegal, and it will be ratified again in the next cabinet meeting.
