this atrocious attack. officials feared mushing a news conference minutes ago, motive clear. the evidence we have uncovered so far makes no mistake that this is an absolute racist hate crime, prosecuted as a hate crime, someone who has hate in their heart, soul, and mind. no mistake that this is the direction they are going in. a vigil today for the victims of the attack including the governor of new york, kathy hochul who served as the county clerk here in the county from 2007 to 2011. i talked one-on-one with her, years a bit about that. this was cold, it was calculated, it was cruel. it was designed to have mass casualties. there s a plan posted on social media platforms, and that is what angers me the most. that this information was out there. and we need to know because we can protect people before this happens again. i m gonna have that entire interview with the governor in a moment. this is by the way the deadliest mass shooting in the country this year, and bu
polo sandoval is in new york and naddio romero is live in atlanta. so let s check in with shimon prokupecz. what are you seeing? reporter: yeah, so thousands out here now, fredricka. as they listen to some of the speakers. that are taking the stage here, local politician and other folks from planned parenthood. speaking to the crowd and getting them fired up. and then look apr this crowd here as you see signs everywhere here for many of the people who have come here from all across the country. places like seattle, and other parts of west coast and people who drove here from baltimore, and from new york city. all wanting to be here to fight, they say, as they begin what they say a new phase in this fight. they are saying that they are fighting for abortion access, the concern being that many people who can t afford, who are living in poverty, this will effect them the most. and so many of them out here today fighting, voicing their opinion after the leaked draft opinion. as
before headed to the steps of the supreme court. the supreme court s initial ruling could be released in weeks. a new reality awaits if the opinion doesn t change. there are 13 states with trigger states that would indicate near total ban on abortion. and 23 states have laws that would create major limits. shimon prokupecz is in washington and polo sandoval is new york for us right now. shimon, what are the activists telling you? what are you hearing so far? reporter: most of them out here just saying that they want to keep fighting despite this leaked draft opinion. they re not giving up hope. they think that things can change and they can perhaps prevent the supreme court from issuing a final ruling that would obviously overturn roe. that is certainly on the top of minds of many of the people here. concern being that this ruling, should it stand, should this draft become the actual decision of the court, it would affect underserved communities, poor communities mostly and
yeah, it could be very well awful. you know, listen, right now, they have a suspect in custody. that s a good news, but right now it s important they reach out to family, individuals that may have been injured during the course of that incident unfolding. that s what they re doing now. of course you have a crime scene they have to protect. they ve got to try to find out as much information from this individual as possible. probably trying to secure search wa warrants. so there are a lot of things going on right now, but one of the main things is actually notifying family members. and here s an eyewitness who just spoke to hour affiliate there, wkbw. from what i saw, just left the store and i stopped here and i started to drink my juice and i heard a gun shot that i knew was a gun shot and not a fire cracker. i looked up and i seen smoke. i seen a guy in a full army shoot just shooting shots at people. i seen a security guard run in the store and then i seen the guy go i
