They wanted the same kind of life that you and i have. But they were denied that because of the laws of the slavery. That generated just a desire, unquenchable thirst to leave and get out of the state of georgia and the south. 1848, they decided they were going to leave. They planned the trip for four days, and they took off at night, they left, and they went to savannah and from savannah they caught a ship. Sailed to charleston, south carolina, and made symptom stops along the way, and finally ended up in philadelphia. But then once in philadelphia, the abolitionsist told them they wouldnt be safe in philadelphia as they would be in boston, massachusetts.
