The sense of outrage and the feeling of unfairness behind the government’s abrupt decision of temporary suspension of flights from India is continuing unabated.“I find this decision a bit abrupt and shocking,” says Navtej Randhawa of Radio Spice and a prominent community leader based in South Auckland.
“We are not confident if the government has explored all other options of managing the risk before taking this knee-jerk decision,” Navtej said.
“Do you know of any such risk mitigation measures that the government has considered before stopping flights from India,” Navtej asked exasperatingly.

January 26, 2021, being a Tuesday, a working day for most New Zealanders, Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust on Saturday, January 23 hosted the 72nd Indian Republic Day celebrations in Auckland.
The Mt Roskill War Memorial Hall gleamed with senior citizens dressed in colourful ethnic Indian dresses to celebrate the annual patriotic day.
Prior to starting the festivities, a regular meeting of the senior citizens took place inside the hall as patrons and members toasted birthdays of fellow senior citizens, sang and clapped to different activities.
Hon Consul of India hoisted the tricolour opening the Republic Day celebrations as the hall reverberated in Indian national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ in full unison.

Auckland Tamil Association, the community organisation for the Tamil speaking people living in Auckland, concluded its year with two events- Christmas and New Year celebrations and an employment seminar for students of Construction Management, Civil and Project Management.
The Christmas celebration event was held at Mt Roskill War Memorial Hall on Saturday, December 19 and employment seminar at Western Springs Community Centre on Sunday, December 20.
More than 200 people from the Tamil and non-Tamil speaking diaspora attended the annual function that showcased ATA’s charitable works in the year 2020, dance and singing performances, speeches, magic show for children, and Christmas cake cutting ceremony.
