The arrival of FUSO’s eCanter trucks marks the first tangible milestone of an approved electric truck trial for inner city deliveries – the eCanter ZEA Auckland City Project. This is the largest electric truck trial to date held in New Zealand having successfully secured co funding through the government’s Low Emission Vehicles Contestable Fund, which is administered by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA).

Auckland port safety report will pave way for change, Goff says © RNZ / Dan Cook Auckland Mayor Phil Goff says a draft report on safety at the city s port is complete and will pave the way for change. Some stevedores have told RNZ the need to clear freight quickly has added further stress to a workplace where there has been three deaths since 2017. The Auckland Council-led safety review into the port was launched after a death last August. Phil Goff said better monitoring and enforcement of health and safety is needed. He said a WorkSafe report indicates one Auckland Port straddle driver set off a tip alarm 91 times during the shift when he died.

Port supply chain problems could continue, minister warns © RNZ / Kymberlee Fernandes Transport Minister Michael Wood warns that supply chain problems at the ports will continue for much of this year. Wood told the Transport Select Committee that the global index of shipping reliability is at the lowest levels ever recorded. He says Covid-19, industrial action at port in Australia and extreme weather events have all impacted reliability. We re dealing with a global problem, it is not something that we can fix and unfortunately we expect it to last well into this year, he said.
