Mrs. E.L. Tebbetts and Mrs. Emery Bailey will entertain the Auburn Art Club at the home of Mrs. Tebbetts on Shepley Street, Auburn this afternoon. This is to be a Colonial meeting and the members are asked to wear appropriate costumes.
50 Years Ago: 1971
The Lewiston High School gymnasium was the scene of a Coronation Ball dance held, Friday evening. Three students were named to royalty as the Winter Carnival Queen and her princesses were chosen. Miss Sandra Ward, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Ward was crowned Senior Queen, and the Misses Sandra Boucher and Sandra Wilson were chosen as Junior and Sophomore Princesses. Miss Ward received three long stemmed red roses, and the two princesses were given single long stemmed yellow roses. Robert Cote, senior class president, officiated at the coronation and also presented awards to the runners of various carnival events. Dancing occupied the remainder of the evening.

The postponed Senior play, “Way Down in Maine,” will be given at Murray Hall, Thursday evening. There has been big ticket sales and much interest has been shown. Specialties will be introduced between the acts and home-made confections will be on sale.
50 Years Ago: 1971
The Auburn Parks and Recreation Department has received an $800 grant from the State Forestry Department to be utilized in the City’s tree planting program. The superintendent of the APARD said the state funds would be used this year in addition to the $2,500 city funds already earmarked for the project. Ingersoll said he has worked closely with the Auburn Beautification Committee to determine the areas in the city in greatest need for replanting.

The Pop Concert, second in the series of competitive entertainments by the Lewiston and Auburn Shrine club, will be held tonight at Kora Temple. The place was decorated for the occasion, last night and the committee In charge admits that it looks hotter than when decorated by the committee on the last entertainment. This evening’s program is to be replete with novel features. The entertainment is to be novel and the same is said to be true of the refreshments. Percy Weymouth, superintendent of the Portland-Lewiston Interurban. is also superintendent of this undertaking and no stone has been left unturned to make this far ahead of the first In the series.
