This week, more than 61,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine will ship to North Carolina. More than 21,000 doses will be distributed to Charlotte-area hospitals and the Mecklenburg County Health Department.
The health department is expecting 975 doses in the next few days. An ultra-cold freezer to store them is also on its way.
Those doses will continue to go to those in Phase 1A of vaccine distribution.
“Initially that includes healthcare workers, our EMTs and paramedics, our testing partners,” said Harris.
They ll be vaccinating those giving the vaccine too. The county is also covering about 200 long-term care facilities that did not enroll in the federal program. Through that program, CVS and Walgreens will vaccinate staff and residents of long term care facilities.

A Charlotte doctor on Monday became the first person in North Carolina to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, according to Atrium Health. In a video posted to Twitter, the hospital system s Medical Director of Infection Prevention, Dr. Katie Passaretti, said she was the first to get the shot. I couldn t be more excited. I feel perfectly fine. I ve had no issues with the vaccine, Passaretti said in the video.

First Person to Get COVID Vaccine in NC says it’s Less Painful than a Flu Shot

The first vaccine administered in the state was given to a doctor at Carolinas Medical Center.
“It was less painful than the flu shot I got this year. I have no bruising. I didn’t bleed at all,” explains Dr. Katie Passaretti, an infectious disease specialist at Atrium Health.
She got her first dose shortly after the Pfizer vaccine arrived at Carolinas Medical Center on Monday morning.
“I have minimal pain, kind of in the muscle. It’s really, I feel blessed that it was such a good experience,” she explains.

Joey Smith, the assistant director for environmental services, is set to get the vaccine this week. I thought about it from when I first found it was offered about 2 weeks. I talked to doctors, my doctor, other people who said yes to get it and listen to their reasons for saying yes to get it.
