Cape Town DA councillor released on R10 000 bail

Cape Town - A Table View DA councillor who appeared in the Atlantis Magistrates Court on charges of fraud and money laundering was released on on R10 000 bail.
Nora Groseâs next court appearance is scheduled for June 21.
According to the Hawks, Grose allegedly facilitated the siphoning of Covid-19 relief funds from the City.
An amount of R170 000 was channelled to an Atlantis based organisation called the South African Religious Civic Organisation (SARCO)
The money was in turn channelled to a church in Table View with links to some city officials, Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani said.

CAPE TOWN - The case against alleged abalone smugglers arrested in a R9.9 million bust has been remanded for a week.
The matter resumes on 26 May.
The bust was executed by police, the Hawks and fisheries officials.
Officials stopped two vehicles and found 70 boxes containing more than 23,000 units of dried abalone.

CAPE TOWN - The community of Atlantis is struggling to come to terms with yet another femicide.
This week, 21-year-old Chanre Viljoen was stabbed to death, allegedly by her ex-boyfriend. Police have confirmed a 23-year-old man has been arrested.
Communities of Witsand and Atlantis held a peaceful protest in front of the Atlantis Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

He allegedly defrauded the COVID-19 Temporary Employer Relief Scheme.
The man was taken into custody on Thursday.
It s understood that he claimed TERS funds from the Labour Department on behalf of 36 employees.
He then apparently kept the money for himself. The 44-year-old suspect is spending the weekend behind bars and will appear in the Atlantis Magistrates Court on Monday 14 December and he will be facing charges of fraud.
