ATLANTA - While residents frequently use the Atlanta BeltLine, there s still some necessary work ahead to close the loop.
The City of Atlanta hopes the completion of the project will meet its approaching deadline thanks to new legislation.
City of Atlanta officials approved funding to complete the Atlanta BeltLine trail loop by securing a Special Service District designation.
The designation is a mechanism for raising funds to finish what officials thought the original Tax Allocation District would provide for in 2005.
The announcement on Monday said the Special Service District will provide approximately $100 million toward completing the 22-mile multi-use trail loop. It s a targeted tax district that means property owners will see an increase in their property taxes to fund the project. Officials said the SSD will appear on property tax bills in fall 20

fivetonine The Atlanta Beltline is asking for a slight tax increase on businesses and apartment complexes around the multiuse path to help finance the final years of the Beltline’s construction, reports J.D. Capelouto.
Atlanta City Councilmember Dustin Hillis introduced three ordinances that would create a Special Service District around the Beltline that would implement a property tax on multi-family and commercial properties along the Beltline, according to Capelouto. The special taxing district would be expected to generate in $100 million in tax revenue over the next ten years.
Jennifer Dorian named new CEO of PBA

In a specially-called meeting, the board of Public Broadcasting Atlanta (WABE 90.1 FM AND ATL PBA) Tuesday selected Jennifer Dorian, a 20-year veteran of Turner Broadcasting and WarnerMedia, as its new president and CEO.
Dorian, who will begin her new role Jan. 11, will fill the spot of Wonya Lucas, who served as PBA’s CEO from 2015-2020. Lucas recently joined Crown Media Family Networks as president and CEO.
Scott Woelfel, who served PBA as interim CEO throughout the search process, will continue in his role as chief content officer.
