ATHOL At its most recent meeting, the Athol Royalston Regional School Committee was brought up to speed on progress being made toward carrying out the district’s strategic plan. The update was provided by Supt. Darcy Fernandes.
Providing an explanation of the reasons behind a strategic plan, Fernandes said, “It talks about why our district exists, how staff and students are expected to behave, what is different or special about our district, what you’re going to focus on to improve student experiences at the schools, how the schools are going to do this, and what actions you will undertake to implement your key improvement strategies and the milestones that will be used to identify progress.

ATHOL It looks like members of Athol High School Class of 2021 will see a more traditional end to their public school careers than did their predecessors in 2020.
Principal David King briefed the Athol Royalston Regional School Committee at its meeting last week on the events that are planned for AHS seniors over the next couple of months.
Despite concerns raised by several committee members, the vote to approve the end-of-year events as presented by King was unanimous.

ATHOL A week after holding a public hearing on the proposed spending plan, the Athol Royalston Regional School Committee last Wednesday endorsed a FY22 education budget of just over $29.5 million.
“Last week,” said Superintendent Darcy Fernandes, “we did present this budget to the community, and all of the current School Committee members were present.”
She then went on to note that one minor tweak to the proposal had been made during the intervening week.
“There has only been one change made to the document as we go forward for a vote tonight,” she continued. “If you look at the sheet where we outline our spending, what was not included in the last one was the mentor for our new business manager and for our facilities manager.
ATHOL The Athol Royalston Regional School Committee is expected to vote a proposed FY22 school district budget of approximately $26 million when it meets this week. If the budget is ultimately approved, Athol taxpayers will chip in nearly $290,000.
