Most of the haze caused by several near by wildfires and just like yesterday we are seeing ash falling like snow in many parts of the bay area. Jeff is going to join us in a little bit. Good evening, everybody thanks for being here tonight at 8 oclock im grant lotus and im Vicki Liviakis thanks for joining kron 4 news at 8 our top story tonight more than 167,000 customers have been left in the dark this evening. This result of the planned power shutoffs by pg and e because of wildfire concerns. The impact has been felt by more than 22,000 customers in sonoma and napa counties, 17,000 customers in sonoma county. 5,000 customers in napa this is the current interactive outage map shut offs here indicated by those pink triangles you see the area just west of lake hennessy there is inundated with shut offs. Power for some customers may not be restored until tomorrow night according to pg and e and while most of those customers have dealt with these power shutoffs before they are no less frustrated. Then tourism driedup. Now that San Francisco is starting to ease restrictions, many people hope tourism can make a comeback. Reporter finding Tourist Attractions has been challenging. Just finding a hotel was difficult. Some remained open primarily for essential workers and essential travel. Beginning monday, hotels will be allowed to open again. Industry insiders expect demand to begin slowly. The biggest thing is getting employees back to work. Before covid we had 25,000 employees just in the hotels. Hotels are vital to the tourism comeback. They bring in revenue in taxes and to the hotels themselves. Small businesses, restaurants and attractions will all benefit if we can get people in. Attractions are where boats come in. There one of the many things that lure people to the city. The bigger operators have not been allowed to go out and operate.
