–Many people are familiar with Mr. Putters Putt Putt miniature golf course located in downtown Atascadero, located a half a block north of the Carlton Hotel. Now, Mr. Putters Boathouse has just opened up at the Atascadero Lake. The Boathouse has two and four-person paddle boats available to rent by the hour.

The appreciation for outdoor recreation was reinvigorated last year when the public health crisis resulted in stay-at-home orders that effectively closed entertainment and restaurant industries; the orders also came with a recommendation to get outside at a safe distance from others.
–Sunny weather brought hundreds of people to Atascadero Lake and the Charles Paddock Zoo over the weekend.
The zoo reopened Friday. When the clouds cleared Saturday, families returned to the zoo to admire the Malayan tiger, ring-tailed lemurs, meerkats, and dozens of other exotic animals. The flamingoes provided a noisy and brilliant welcoming attraction at the entrance to the zoo. The Charles Paddock Zoo is open 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., seven days a week. Because of COVID-19, masks are required. Attendance is limited to 40 people at a time, so weekdays are a great time to go.
Hundreds of other people jogged, walked, and rode bicycles around Atascadero Lake. One father took his young son fishing in a canoe, while dozens of others fished from the shoreline.

Those on the Central Coast looking for a holiday activity during the pandemic won t have to travel far.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife restocked Atascadero Lake with more than 1,000 fish early last week.
This marks the third plant of fish into the lake this year.
For those looking to plan a fishing trip, remember the limit is five fish per person.
A fishing license is also required for those 16 and older.

–The week before Christmas, the community got an early gift at a local fishing spot.
“Fish and Wildlife planted between 700-1000 sterile trout into Atascadero Lake,” says Nancy Hair with the Friends of the Atascadero Lake. “This is the third fish plant this year. Fish and Wildlife want to increase fishing opportunities for families here in San Luis Obispo County.”
The limit on catching fish is five per person and a fishing license is required for those over 16 years old. Atascadero Lake is a 30-acre reservoir located at Atascadero Lake Park, 9305 Pismo Ave., Atascadero.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife advises, “Trout fishing can be a safe outdoor activity that maintains physical distancing from others as we work to minimize transmission of COVID-19. Anglers must make sure to stay six feet from anyone not in their same household, wear a face mask, wash hands with soap and water whenever possible, follow all fishing regulations, and stay safe.”
