The first Aston Martin F1 car in 60 years has been revealed, as the former Racing Point team complete their rebrand for 2021.
Aston Martin have revealed their new car, the AMR21, in an online launch that signified the conclusion of the rebrand of the former Racing Point team.
The AMR21 is an evolution of last year’s Racing Point RP20, with the car revealed by drivers Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel at a launch event from Aston’s headquarters in Gaydon in the UK.
The AMR21 is the first Aston Martin F1 car since the DBR5 driven by Roy Salvadori and Maurice Trintignant at the 1960 British Grand Prix.

™ Team car returns the British ultra-luxury marque to the pinnacle of world motorsport for the first time in more than 60 years. It was unveiled today, in a much anticipated immersive virtual launch in front of a global audience. Described by Aston Martin Executive Chairman Lawrence Stroll as an ‘important event in automotive history’, the new contender will be the first works Formula 1 car to carry the famous wings since Maurice Trintignant’s DBR5 crossed the finish line at Silverstone in 1960.
For the first time in more than 60 years, Aston Martin returns to Formula One later this month at the Bahrain Grand Prix, with the debut of its AMR21.
The new AMR21 is powered by a Mercedes-AMG F1 M12 E Performance engine with hybrid energy recovery and will be raced by the Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One Team, which is based at Silverstone in the UK and sponsored by American technology company Cognizant.
“I’ve dreamed about this day for a very long time. I’ve always been a car guy and I’ve always loved racing, too, said Lawrence Stoll, executive chairman of Aston Martin Lagonda, in a statement. They pulled the wraps off the Canadian-owned 2021 Aston Martin Cognizant AMR21 Formula One racing car in the U.K. today (Wednesday, March 3) and the first Aston Martin-badged car since 1960 will take to the track for the first time at Silverstone tomorrow.
The car, with drivers Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel doing the honours, was unveiled in a virtual launch before a worldwide audience in what Aston Martin executive chairman and team owner Lawrence Stroll called an “important event in automotive history.”
