Chiemelie Ezeobi, Rebecca Ejifoma, Ayodeji Ake, Sunday Ehigiator and Chiamaka Ozulumba write that the death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru alongside his generals, aides and crew of the ill-fated Nigerian Air Force aircraft, was a blow to the Armed Forces and the fight against insurgency
When Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, was appointed as the 25th Chief of Army Staff (COAS), one of his key derivatives was his drive to quell insurgency in the North-east. His drive was understandable, especially for a region that reportedly gave him trouble when he was Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole until 2017 when he was removed by the then COAS, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai.

A security expert, Dr Ona Ekhomu, has asked state governments to develop a kidnap contingency plan to manage all aspects of mass abduction of school students.
In a statement in Lagos on Wednesday, Ekhomu, who is the National President of the Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria, condemned the handling of the abduction of the 39 students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna State, saying government officials were not sensitive to the psychological and emotional stress the victims’ parents underwent during the 57-day captivity.
He said the “incompetent and tone-deaf emergency response by Kaduna officials” caused severe mental stress for the parents.

Security Expert, Dr Ona Ekhomu has urged the Nigerian military to urgently create a firewall in the North-east to prevent incursion into Nigeria by the various militia groups fighting for control of the Central African nation of Chad.
He said: “Aside from the rebel group (Front for Change and Concord in Chad) which assassinated President Idris Deby, there are myriad armed groups which could advance south into Nigeria or be pursued by the Chadian Army into Nigeria. Either way we must not be caught off guard by military adventurists”.
Reacting to the assassination of the Chadian leader and the resultant constitutional crisis in that country, Dr. Ona Ekhomu who is President of the Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria (AISSON) said the military diplomacy strategy of President Deby had resulted in a “militaristic culture” by elements of the Chadian military and armed rebels.
