What do you think is fuelling jailbreaks in Nigeria?
Let me give you a little background. The first thing is to look at why people would want to break into a correctional centre. Boko Haram did it successfully on September 7, 2010 when they broke into the Bauchi correctional centre. They set their colleagues held there free and their purpose was to build an army. We should know that anytime somebody is breaking into a prison, we need to quickly ask ourselves who did it. In my book on Boko Haram, I listed 10 prison breaks by Boko Haram. The Federal Government has asked the International Criminal Police Organisation to be on the alert and lookout for the inmates who escaped in the recent jailbreaks in the country, including the most recent in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
It added that the Nigerian Immigration Service had also been issued an alert, noting that the data of the inmates were being compiled and would be sent to the relevant organisations in batches so as not to delay the manhunt.
A senior official with the Nigerian Correctional Service on Saturday told one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity that the number of “dangerous” inmates on the loose officially was 3,471, including those who escaped in Owerri.

Insecurity in Nigeria has continued to remain a daunting challenge, with attacks by kidnappers gradually shifting to urban areas.
Almost on daily basis, the media space is awash with news of killings of defenceless Nigerians , without any moral justification, with the value for life deteriorating to its lowest ebb.
Investigation by Saturday Vanguard revealed that there are different categories of kidnappers. One of the categories are members of the Boko Haram sect, who are responsible for some abductions in the northern part of the country.

A lot of Nigerians sighed with relief on Tuesday, January 26, when the Presidency announced the appointment of new service chiefs by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Those so appointed are Maj-Gen. Lucky E.O. Irabor as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS); Maj-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru as Chief of Army Staff (COAS); Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo as Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) and Air-Vice Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao as Chief of Air Staff (CAS).

Buhari had on Tuesday approved the immediate resignation of the then security chiefs and their retirement from service.
Those involved were the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Abayomi Olonishakin; Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas and Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.
