COAI: Last month, more than 100 startups and Internet companies in a letter to the watchdog said that any move towards overregulation of internet companies or Over-The-Top (OTT) services, might have discriminatory consequences.
Indian Telecom Service Providers: The comments from telco group have come on the close heels of Broadband India Forum (BIF) alleging that telcos contention to mandate OTT players pay network usage fees coupled with the government’s intent to impose licensing framework on would lead to a violation of the Net Neutrality principles and guidelines of 2016.
"People are misusing genuine OTT platforms to bypass the system because they are not regulated, they are not subject to any security regulations. So then its not good for the country, and for our citizens," SP Kochhar, director general of the Cellular Operators Association of India (Coai) told ETTelecom.
Bharti Airtel: Of late, WhatsApp Pink scam has duped several people, forcing law enforcement agencies and police departments of multiple states across India issuing advisory against this fraud.
