BRIDGEPORT Local police officers helped ensure 25 children will have gifts this year for Christmas through the annual Shop with a Cop event.
The Bridgeport Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 211 and The Thin Blue Line FOP Associates Lodge 100 joined forces Saturday for the annual event that helps provide children in need with gifts for the holidays. Nearly a dozen officers from Belmont, Bethesda, Shadyside, Yorkville and Bridgeport police departments participated in the event.
Bridgeport Lt. Darby Copeland said he and fellow officers took 25 children shopping at Walmart in St. Clairsville and at Deluxe Novelty in Martins Ferry for gifts of their choosing. The experience was heartwarming, he said.
