The Centre s sanction for setting up an AIIMS campus in Kamrup district, on the suburbs of the city, has led to a mixed bag of feelings from the locals.

GUWAHATI: Healthcare services in Assam could come to a halt on Friday, as doctors from government and private sectors announced their decision to boycott outpatient department (OPD) services and regular surgeries.
The protesting doctors affiliated to the state branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Assam’s largest organization of doctors, Assam Medical Services Association (AMSA), are opposing the Central Council of Indian Medicine’s (CCIM) move to allow Ayurvedic doctors to conduct surgeries, mixing up medical systems, terming it “mixopathy”.
The IMA has called for a nationwide withdrawal of non-essential medical services from 6 am to 6 pm on Friday.
