Guwahati: After Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi was fired upon by alleged land encroachers of Nagaland on Thursday, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi demanded more security cover for Kurmi.
Gogoi has sought additional security from Assam Director General of Police (DGP), Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, saying that it was essential for not only his well-being but also to enable him to carry out his duties as an elected representative more efficiently.

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has asked Special DGP G P Singh to investigate the unprovoked firing by Naga miscreants on Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi who was on his way to Disai Valley along the Assam-Nagaland border.
Speaking to the media after the scary incident, Kurmi thanked his PSOs and the Assam Police constables for their prompt response and for saving his and other people s lives. Kurmi expressed grief that they were fired upon in their own land and requested the Chief Minister to save Assam s land.
