COVID-19: Seven-day home quarantine mandatory for people travelling to Assam
Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said people travelling to the state from outside will have to undergo mandatory seven-day home quarantine in the wake of a rise in COVID-19 cases. However, government officials, those travelling for medical reasons, and people visiting the state in connection with bereavements will be exempted from it, he said.
In a series of tweets, Sarma said, the health department is working relentlessly to ramp up testing by rolling out screening centres in every ward of the state capital.
On April 13, the Assam government had made it mandatory for all air passengers arriving in the state to undergo Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), followed by RT-PCR test, even if the RAT was negative.

GUWAHATI: In a decision that might bring back bad memories of COVID phase 1 for the restaurateurs and people in the restaurant business, the Assam government on Tuesday said that restaurants will have to close down by 6 PM every evening starting today as a preventive measure to fight COVID.
Briefing the media about the new COVID guidelines issued by the state government today following directions from the Union Home Ministry, Assam Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua said, All restaurants which are not in hotels will have to close down by 6 PM. Though we have said that these restaurants will have to remain shut for the next 10 days, we will review the situation in the next three days .

Guwahati s Don Bosco School has been sealed for seven days after several teachers tested positive for Covid-19. In an order issued on Sunday, Kamrup Metropolitan Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu declared the entire school premises as containment zone till February 27 to prevent further spread of coronavirus among the teaching staff and students.
