militias or jihadi groups on the ground, it takes just one of them to say we don t want this deal to happen. to start firing or set a few buses on fire like over the weekend, and it is derailed. the evacuations have resumed again. it will be a question of how long and how many people are able to be evacuated. if they can get aleppo evacuated, what then? the last rebel stronghold essentially and if you move rebels out of the other cities or individuals out of the cities, what then becomes the battle field in syria? reporter: that s the million dollar question. we know a lot of these groups leaving the eastern part of aleppo going to idlib along the turkish border. they will set up a refugee camp along the province.
muhammad, how is this likely to move going forward? reporter: good morning, miguel. there are still several thousand people in eastern aleppo trapped awaiting evacuation after a very long and disappointing weekend where there was no movement, finally good news to start the week. we understand that about 3,000 people or so have been evacuated from leastern aleppo to the countryside. now this has turned to a swap in exchange for rebels and eastern aleppo allowed to leave, there are towns besieged by militant groups and people in those towns are allowed to leave as well. it is a swap and anytime there is a swap, it gets more complicated on the ground. you need more security guarantees. they have to happen simultaneously. there are so many groups on the ground fighting, the assad regime forces or pro assad
states election to help donald trump. this is what incoming chief of staff reince priebus said this weekend. if there is this con clclusi opinion, they should issue a report or stand in front of a camera and make the case. reporter: monday is an important day for donald trump. electors from around the country formally cast ballots to elect him the next president of the united states. there has been an effort by liberal groups to stall the election to allow the electors to hear intelligence briefing about the alleged hack or convince them to not cast ballots for trump. there is not expected to be any widespread revolt, but it is something that has the president-elect s attention. on sunday, he tweeted the following. if my many supporters acted and threatened people like those who lost the election are doing, they would be scorned and called terrible names.
and at least six of them were generals. this could be their vietnam, just like others are expecting, is this going to be russia s next afghanistan? this is enormous, high-level losses for the iranians for the revolutionary guards. reporter: by comparison, in its more than ten years in vietnam, america lost a dozen generals. but only one u.s. general has been killed in the 40 years since vietnam. most western forces now place their top commanders in bunkers far from the front lines. analysts say iranian generals are getting gunned down in battle because they re directing hezbollah fighters, other militi militias, and an undisciplined syrian army that s been pummeled. there s a huge amount of coordination that goes on. the assad regime forces can t be relied on, have to be controlled by the iranians in a very hands-on way. so, you have to be close. reporter: among those killed, according to iranian state media, a bodyguard for former iranian president mahmoud
obama and israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu are going to great lengths to look and sound like they re on the same page. today there were handshakes, there were photo ops, there were a whole lot of cameras in that room. the two-hour meeting followed by a working lunch and lots of friendly language. the bond between our two countries is unbrackable. iran viewed the united states and israel as one and the same. you know, for them, you re the great satan. we re the little satan. for them, we are you and you are us. and you know something, mr. president? at least on this last point, i think they re right. we are you and you are us. we re together. but if you listen closely, it s not so cut and dry. there is reason to think the two countries may not be standing together so closely when it comes to iran. here s president obama again. we do believe there is still a window that allows for a diplomatic resolution to this issue. and here s the prime minister. we ve
