India’s biggest wildlife hospital, known as the AIIMS for wildlife, is set to be constructed in Rajkot, Junagadh. The facility, established under Project Lion, will address zoonotic diseases among animals and produce vaccines for export.
A leopard was found dead on the National Highway (NH) 44 near Khatushyam temple in north Delhi s Alipur in the early hours of Wednesday, police said. This comes just days after a leopard was sighted multiple times in south Delhi s Sainik Farms area.Police said they received a PCR call at around 4am
A woman and her two-year-old daughter were critically injured in an attack by a tusker in Kalunga forest section on Sunday. The tusker had killed a 43-year-old farmer in Birda forest section in the wee hours of Sunday before it walked into Kalunga and attacked the duo. The woman was identified as Padmini Toppo (22), a resident of Duitola Tungritola in Kalunga forest section under Kuanmurnda forest range. On Sunday around 7am, she was on her way to her mother’s house, located close by, when the elephant kicked Padmini and her daughter, who was in her arms, also got injured. The duo is currently hospitalised in Rourkela. “The tusker is now in Jodakudar khetra forest and we are a keeping watch on its movement,” K Kothi, forester (Kalunga forest section), said.
A seven-feet python weighing 12kg was rescued and released in PTR forest Daltonganj. The python, which had swallowed chicks and goats, was captured from the backyard of the Bareysarn range office. The villagers were agitated due to the reptile's activities. The deputy director of PTR advises people to inform the forest patrol team instead of harming pythons.
