It was a devastating year for restaurants in Birmingham, many of which closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and all of which had to adapt to the “new” normal of curbside service and restricted seating. But 2021 is finally here, and soon, we hope and pray, we can return to the “old” normal and enjoy going out to lunch or dinner with our friends without worrying about wearing a mask or having our temperature checked.

But at Christmastime, the employees at Ashley Mac’s café and catering look forward to a holiday treat that you won’t find anywhere on the menu. Chef and owner Ashley McMakin calls it “reindeer food,” and when Christmas comes around each year, she delivers large aluminum catering pans filled with the sweet-and-salty snack to her employees at all five Ashley Mac locations in the Birmingham metro area.
