The University of Colorado football team completed its second spring intrasquad scrimmage on Friday. With three weeks of spring practice under their belts, the Buffs took a more game-like inventory that lasted almost two hours.
Head coach Karl Dorrell said that he felt good about the team’s progress.
“I think the point right now is to finish these two weeks off and continuing to develop a depth in our program, in particular the young guys,” Dorrell said. “I think these are valuable reps for them today. To get a chance to scrimmage and play against each other, they showed good competitive stuff today.”

BOULDER Karl Dorrell s Colorado Buffaloes will conduct their first scrimmage of the spring Friday, a workout that should provide at least a glimpse of some of the changes on both sides of the ball.
The Buffs are installing a new defensive scheme under new coordinator Chris Wilson, and they re making some offensive changes as well to incorporate some new looks on coordinator Darrin Chiaverini s side of the ball.
Dorrell has said he hopes to get the basic installation of the new playbook completed on both sides by the end of the spring. He also indicated he will stress his players just a little and challenge them to absorb as much as possible in the 15 allotted practices (Friday s scrimmage will be No. 6).

Questionable
QB Sam Noyer will be active tonight, but his sprained right shoulder may require offseason surgery. He hurt that shoulder on a tough tackle during the Utah game, but like Sefo Liufau before him, he is taking the field anyway. The Buffs plan on giving freshman Brendon Lewis some reps, so he could see more time if Noyer struggles throwing the ball.
OL Kary Kutsch is back from COVID-19, although there are usual questions about how the longer-term symptoms will affect his stamina. It’s good to have him back, as the original starting offensive line is in action.

Heading into the program’s first bowl game in four years, the CU Buffs football team is not taking the experience for granted. Head coach Karl Dorrell flew past expectations in 2020 but the first-year Colorado head coach has bigger goals in mind.
“We made a good step of progress this year,” Dorrell said. “I know the expectation was low and all that but in our building, we always felt we had some capable players to be successful and we were able to be successful.”
