With visitors India already sealing the Test series and a hectic Test season ahead for the Lankans, the team management decided on resting the veteran spinner.

Hosts Sri Lanka on Wednesday suffered a major setback when middle-order batsman Asela Gunaratne was ruled out of the ongoing opening Test against India with a fractured left thumb.
Gunaratne sustained the injury while fielding at second slip. He hurt his thumb while attempting a catch of India opener Shikhar Dhawan off the bowling of Lahiru Kumara.
The Sri Lankan batsmen batted with flamboyance to clobber the Indian attack to all parts of the ground. In the process, they easily overcame India s mammoth 321-run target in their Champions Trophy encounter.

Sri Lanka defeated defending champions India by 7 wickets as their batsmen overcame a huge 321 run total while scripting a great victory.
With this victory, Sri Lanka has kept their chances alive in the Champions Trophy.
