Lauvergne inspires Zalgiris to thrash Khimki Joffrey Lauvergne produced the best performance of his career to power Zalgiris Kaunas to a 102-75 home win over Khimki Moscow Region on Friday night. Lauvergne scored 29 points on 13-of-14 two-point shooting and hauled down 9 rebounds to give Zalgiris its sixth consecutive victory, improving to 11-7 while Khimki stays in last place at 2-16. Khimki initially competed well and used a 2-16 run to establish a 32-43 lead before half-time, but Zalgiris fought back after the break and took total control with 11-2 and 16-0 runs, winning the third quarter 39-13 to put the outcome beyond doubt. Lauvergne’s spectacular performance was complemented by 18 points and 8 assists for Marius Grigonis, and 14 points for Nigel Hayes. Khimki was paced by Alexey Shved with 22 points and 8 assists, while Devin Booker had 19 points and 7 rebounds.

ALBA Berlin got an up-close and personal reminder of just how good Marius Grigonis is as the Lithuanian star provided another display of his big-game heroics for Zalgiris Kaunas in beating his former team. Grigonis, who played for ALBA in the 2017-18 season, scored 8 of his 12 points in the final 3 minutes to carry Zalgiris to a 71-74 victory in Germany and extend the team’s winning streak to five games.
With ALBA answering every punch, Grigonis downed back-to-back baskets for a 63-67 lead. He then assisted on Arturas Milaknis s three-pointer to make it 65-70. And to finish off his former team, the 26-year-old calmly hit 2 free throws with 13 seconds left and added 2 more foul shots with 3.5 ticks on the clock.

Not unlike in recent seasons under a different head coach, Zalgiris Kaunas came into Tuesday night s home game against TD Systems Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz with an unusual paradox: it ranked second in three-point accuracy at 40.9% and yet launched fewer of those shots than all but one other Turkish Airlines EuroLeague team through 13 games.
This was not new, either. In the last full EuroLeague season, 2018-19, Zalgiris ranked sixth in three-point accuracy, at 38.1%, but dead last in attempts, just 16.6 per game. The season before that, 2017-18, it was first in making threes, at 42.1%, and last at trying them, with just 16.5 attempts.
