The Supreme Court of India is set to review the validity of central government s 2019 decision to abrogate Article 370 of the Constitution, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The pleas seeking the review of the judgment, where the court upheld the validity of the decision, is scheduled to be heard on May 1.
Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, one of the five judges on the five-judge Supreme Court Bench that upheld the central government’s Abrogation of Article 370, had advocated for the establishment of an "impartial Truth and Reconciliation Commission" (TRCs).
The top court says Article 370 was temporary and the state of J&K does not retain an element of sovereignty. It also orders J&K’s statehood to be restored as soon as possible.
