TIRANA (Albania), April 2 (SeeNews) – Albania’s securities settlement system operator ALREG has started operations after joining the central bank’s real-time gross settlement system (RTGS), the bank said on Monday.
ALREG has thus met all legal requirements to be considered a central securities depository, the central bank said in a press release.
The interfacing of the ALREG system with the central bank’s RTGS would pave the way for the issue of the first corporate bond on Albanian Securities Exchange (ALSE), its executive director Artan Gjergji told SeeNews in an interview in July. ALSE was licensed in July 2017 as the first private securities exchange in the country. Since the start of operations in February 2018, however, only government securities have been traded on the exchange.
