The National Museum of health and medicine was founded in 1862. We were known as the Army Medical Museum. The mission of the time was to collect specimens of anatomy and send them to washington for preservation and study to improve the soldier. This museum and this collection started during the war and in the early days, the museum was housed in the Surgeon Generals houses. The first few artifacts are on the shelf behind the generals desk.
