Posted on February 15th, 2021 Courtesy Adaderana The Attorney General has requested for another Trial-at-Bar for the trial of the Bond Scam involving the third Treasury Bond Auction of March 31, 2016. The Coordinating Officer of the Attorney General State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne stated that Attorney General Dappula de Livera made this request to the Chief Justice today (February 15). The new set of judges has been requested to try former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, former Governor of Central Bank Arjuna Mahendran, Arjun Aloysius, and 07 others with regard to the relevant trial. The Attorney General made a similar request on February 11, 2021, after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the court that investigations into the Rs. 51.98 billion financial irregularities in the 2nd Central Bank bond issue against 11 suspects named in the case have been concluded.

Share: COLOMBO (News1st): The Attorney General has sought the appointment of another trial-at-bar to try 10 accused over the third central bank treasury bond auction on March 31, 2016, in relation to the infamous bond scam. The request had been made to the Chief Justice, the state prosecutor’s coordinating officer State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said Monday. The suspects to be tried include former finance minister Ravi Karunanayake, former central bank governor Arjuna Mahendran and Arjun Aloysius – a director of Perpetual Treasuries Ltd, that was implicated in the scam. Last week, the Attorney General had requested the Chief Justice to appoint a trial-at-bar to try the 10 accused over the bond scam that had caused grave injustice to the other primary dealers in the bond market.

The AG requested Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya to appoint the new trial-at-bar to commence hearings on the third bond auction conducted on 31st March 2016. Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, Perpetual Treasuries Limited beneficiary owner Arjun Aloysius, and seven other suspects have been accused over the scam. Last week, the AG requested the Chief Justice to appoint the first trial-at-bar to hear the case on the Central Bank treasury bond scam.
