India has asked for the repatriation of an Indian baby girl, who has been in the custody of the German Youth Welfare Office for more than 20 months. The baby was taken into custody after she suffered an accidental injury in September 2019. India has argued that it is important for her to be in her cultural, linguistic, and social environment.
Ariha Shah, a two-year-old baby, is currently in the custody of the German state after her parents, an Indian couple, was charges with abusing their child.
Denying custody to Ariha’s parents or the Indian Welfare Services, the court mentioned two injuries that the child had suffered, a head and back injury in April 2021 and a genital injury in September 2021
In a recent development, a court in Berlin s Pankow district has rejected the custody claim of Ariha Shah, a 28-month-old Indian girl, by her biological parents. Instead, custody has been granted to Germany s Youth Welfare Office (Jugendamt), who has been caring for Ariha since September 2021 when she was only seven months old.
