Intro to 3D Modeling & Printing

This workshop will be split into two segments: 3D modeling & 3D printing: 10:00am - 12:00pm 3D Modeling in the DLL The first segment will take place in the Digital Learning Lab. Here, we will go over the basics of modeling in Rhino3d. After a quick follow-along example and some tips and tricks, you will have time to create your own model (printed in part 2). 12:00 - 12:30pm Catered lunch 12:30 - 1:30pm Printing in the PUL Makerspace In the second segment, we will explore the PUL Makerspace in the Lewis Science Library and learn about the process of 3D printing (specifically, how to go from a Rhino model -> a printed object). Everyone will then get a chance to set up their print (although the actual printing of the 3D models will take place over the following days). A message from the workshop leader, Mark Skepasts (Princeton '22): "Over the past three years, I have become very excited and interested in the world of 3D modeling, computational design, and autonomous fa

Making Meaning in 3D

Please bring along an object that is meaningful to you - bigger than an orange and smaller than a shoebox. Enjoy the process of deciding what to share! We will explore two 3D scanners in the PUL Makerspace. The first scanner will scan your object in conversation with another person’s object. The second scanner will create a virtual avatar of your head and shoulders. As we scan ourselves and our objects, we will get to know each other, and become comfortable with the new makerspace. Absolutely no technical knowledge is expected for participation! This event is open to all Princeton students, and is limited to 10 students. SWE at the PUL Makerspace

At this 2-hour event, members of The Princeton Society of Women Engineers (SWE) will have a chance to explore tools and equipment at the PUL Makerspace with Makerspace Specialist, Ariel Ackerly, and meet Princeton's Engineering Librarian, Willow Dressel. Participants will split into groups and have the option to learn 3D printing, explore engineering concepts in virtual reality, and practice using other tools such as a rotary drill, 3D doodler, and sewing machine. This event is open to SWE members who are current students, faculty, or staff of Princeton University. SWE is dedicated to promoting a sense of community among female B.S.E. students, professors, and alumnae of Princeton, and introducing younger girls to the various opportunities offered by studying engineering. This event is capped at 15 participants, and registration is required. Participants will meet in the PUL Makerspace, on the A floor of the Lewis Science Library.
