Bray Lions Club distributed some €8,500 generated by the annual New Year’s Day charity sea swim among four local charities at a ceremony in The Martello, Bray, on Thursday, February 22.
Hundreds of swimmers across the country, including Tánaiste Micheál Martin, were seen braving the freezing waters today to mark the New Year with a sea dip.
The Bray Lions Club annual New Year’s swim, which featured on RTÉ’s evening news on New Year’s Day, with the added bonus of a soundtrack by the now famous bagpipe player, raised some €6,500 from the donations gathered thus far , but with sponsorship money still to come in, the final tally is likely to come closer to €9,000, the club has announced.
