arabian pennsylvania and there is a lack of u.s. presence in afghanistan that they may have recovered more ungoverned space to reconstitute. so counter-terrorism work never stops and the professionals who do it every day should have our support and admiration. and looking back overseas, andy, there is this real concern with the united states out of afghanistan. not only will the terrorist threat reem ernl but now we lack the intelligence resources once again there to have a clear eye on how serious the threat is. how real is that fear for you? it is very real. it is very real. look, let s be honest. we are far more advanced than sophisticated in our ability to track terrorists, to monitor their activities and the recruiting efforts on social media. we have our elements of the military, are far more advanced they there were certainly on 9/11. however, the presence makes alh.
horrific day that america was attacked. nearly 3,000 were killed in these coordinated attacks on september 11th. new york city, the pentagon, the field in pennsylvania. the attacks changed our world and changed the lives of thousands of people who lost family members in an instant. so where are we 20 years on? joining me now is the national chair of the 9/11 families and survivors united for justice against terrorism. she also lost her husband tom in the north tower of the world trade center. thank you for coming on today ahead of the anniversary. how have you been thinking and feeling about the 20 th anniversary leading up to this? well, it s a painful one this year, because the realization that 20 years have passed and that my children were 7, 4 and 4 days old on september 11th and

presidents and first responders. so he will be here. and then go to pennsylvania and then also wind up ending his day over at the pentagon. all of these are the sites where one of those planes went down, of course. and it is going to be a very solemn day here. 20 years, most people remember where they were on this day, 20 years ago. and now so many remembering leading up to this, i was down at the reflection pool before i came up for the live shot, you could start to feel some of the sadness and some of the solemn, the quiet around the pools, the reflection pools where many of the names are etched in stone along the pool, family gathering there already and some of the first responders. it is a solemn day here tomorrow and a day to remember what happened 20 years ago. shimon, thanks for that. and just this past month the u.s. ended the long war that
skiers in the alps after an avalanche. rescue efforts continue in northern australia. 1100 people had to be rescued from homes on sunday after heavy rainfall and they reported snakes and crocodiles floating inside the homes. pope francis is making history making his first papal trip to the arabian pennsylvania. he will meet with a group of muslim elders in a show of religious tolerance. the trip will conclude tuesday with the first ever papal mass there expecting to draw 135,000 people in a display of public christian worship. some of the other stories beyond
