Pakistan lost 80 pc of its pangolins due to illegal killing

Islamabad [Pakistan], May 6 (ANI): Pakistan has lost more than 80 per cent of its pangolins due to their illegal killing for scales and meat and also due to their illegal trade especially with China, reported Dawn.
Speaking at an awareness session on the Scale and Scope of Illegal Trade of Endangered Indian Pangolin, its Ecological and Economic Benefits and Conservation Efforts in Pakistan, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Senior Director (Biodiversity) Rab Nawaz said, We know persecution by farmers has always been there. But we have seen a very sharp decline due to their illegal trade especially in China where demand by the growing middle class for their scales and meat has increased significantly in the last ten years. The session was organised by WWF and Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB).

Rawalpindi : The tall claims of the local administration have dashed to the ground as consumers visiting Ramazan Sasta Bazaars even after 16th Ramazan could hardly find fresh vegetables, fruits, and other eatables. The prices of the eatables are also not much different from the ones sold in the open market.
The local administration has established ‘Sasta Bazaars’ near Iqbal Park Shamsabad, Committee Chowk, Haideri Chowk, Chungi No.22, Adiala Road, Chur Chowk, Chakri Road and Gulzar-e-Quaid.
It has been observed that only 15 to 20 per cent of consumers approach ‘Ramazan Sasta Bazaars’ while 30 per cent of people approach government-run utility stores. The majority of consumers seem interested in buying subsidized sugar and ghee from utility stores and low price vegetables, fruits, and sugar from ‘Ramazan Sasta Bazaars’. ISLAMABAD: There was no let-up in Covid-19 casualties as nine more people died from the infection in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
However, both the cities saw a decline in the number of cases with the capital reporting 327 cases and the garrison city 95.
Officials of the capital administration said five patients three men and two women in the age groups of 40-49, 70-79, 80-89, 50-59 and 60-69 died from the virus.
Those who died were the residents of G-11, G-9, Sohan, Chak Shahzad and I-12, they added.

Federal Minister for Communication, Murad Saeed on Wednesday said the federal government has completed planning for construction of additional 6,000 kilometers roads, highways and motorways including Peshawar-DI Khan and Swat Motorways Phase-II for next two and half years that would make Pakistan a hub of trade, tourism and investment.
Addressing groundbreaking ceremony of up-gradation and rehabilitation of Peshawar-Dara Adamkhel and Chitral Bonni -Mastunj -Shandur roads projects here at Governor House, the Federal Minister said that 1,645 kilometers roads and motorways were completed in last two and half years by PTI government. “We have completed planning of 6,000 kilometers roads, highways and motorways for the next two and half years as compared to 2000 kilometers by
