Waretown Garden State parkway high-speed chase leads to three arrests

View Comments WARETOWN - Three people were arrested after fleeing from their vehicle following a high-speed chase on the Garden State Parkway Memorial Day afternoon, according to the New Jersey State Police. The pursuit began about 4:05 p.m. Monday when a state trooper attempted to stop the silver vehicle for a traffic violation in the southbound lanes near milepost 69 in Waretown, according to a State Police spokesman. The driver failed to stop and the trooper using lights and sirens pursued the vehicle, police said. The driver attempted to take exit 69, but veered off the left side of the exit ramp, struck a curb and the car became disabled. The driver and two passengers fled the area on foot and were found later in a wooded area nearby, police said.

Three men were arrested after troopers said they tried to run away from a stolen car on the Garden State Parkway in Ocean County. State Police said they activated their lights and sirens just after 4 p.m. Monday near northbound Exit 69 to pull over a silver Honda Accord for a motor violation. The vehicle with three men didn’t stop, troopers said. Trooper Charles Marchan said the Honda was stolen. In the getaway attempt, the car ran off the road, struck a curb and became disabled, Marchan said.
