WARETOWN - Three people were arrested after fleeing from their vehicle following a high-speed chase on the Garden State Parkway Memorial Day afternoon, according to the New Jersey State Police.
The pursuit began about 4:05 p.m. Monday when a state trooper attempted to stop the silver vehicle for a traffic violation in the southbound lanes near milepost 69 in Waretown, according to a State Police spokesman.
The driver "failed to stop" and the "trooper using lights and sirens pursued the vehicle," police said.
The driver attempted to take exit 69, but veered off the left side of the exit ramp, struck a curb and the car became disabled. The driver and two passengers fled the area on foot and were found later in a wooded area nearby, police said.
