Slow traffic here and there on the way to the bay bridge but for the most part its at the toll plaza. This is interstate 880. Traffic in both directions is moderately heavy. Southbound 880 just before 92, there is a crash and traffic is slowing down as you drive down from a street. The san mateo bridge also has slowing on the highrise section heading west. The solemnity of this time right now. You talk about the fact there are a lot of people who want to pay their respects. It is amazing to outline all of the people that we have seen today from former mayor willie brown, nancy pelosi expected in the next 10 or 15 minutes. The people who worked with ed lee in various different capacities from housing to neighborhood organizations in china town to people who worked at city hall for a number of years but had very little personal interaction with mayor lee, to people who knew him for decades. Weve kind of seen the entire gamut out here right now. Im going to show you the scene. These are folks waiting to stand in line. It snakes down the steps here and goes all the way around the block and out there towards m l mcalister. The capacity is 3,000. Right now the body of mayor ed lee lies in state underneath the american flag. Mr. San francisco himself willie brown just arrived. It is not just those people we know in the spotlight. Many other residents even some who never even had the chance to speak with the mayor. The mayor adopted San Francisco as his own after spending his childhood in seattle. He grew up in Public Housing the son of chinese immigrants. He said he was drawn to San Francisco for its diversity and tolerance. You can see that in all of the people that are attending the viewing. I believe on this picture at the far lefthand side in that beautiful bright red trenchcoat is former mayor willie brown. He is one of the many who are going to be saying and paying their respects. We were talking earlier when we saw the procession going to the streets of San Francisco and coming down mcallister taking a left on polk street and pulling up to the mayors parking spot. Here the city turns out to mourn the loss of a leader who first came to the office in 2011 and left us suddenly in the Early Morning hours this past tuesday. I have to tell you, this is surreal to me to hear us talking about someone who we knew, ed lee and to say this is his casket being carried into city hall. It happened so suddenly but we are watching this live. His body will lie in state in the rotunda of San Francisco city hall. In the course of our work, we have had many opportunities to meet with the mayor to interview him and to say hello. I am astounded by how many people i have talked with over the past couple of days and i am in the east bay.
