This is the western edition of the broadcast. 6,000 homes and businesses are in the path of a rapidly growing wildfire that doubled in size this weekend north of san francisco. It is one of more than 20 fires burning in the droughtstricken state. Most were sparked by socalled dry thunderstorms which produced lightning and powerful winds but not much rain. The largest fire, the rocky fire has destroyed at least two dozen homes and more than 47,000 acres. It is still only 5 contained. Carter evans is on the front line.
