Protestors raised slogans in support of their 4-point charter of demands, statehood for the UT, Constitutional safeguards under the Sixth Schedule for Ladakh
While the call for a protest was announced earlier this week, on Friday, the Centre announced a second round of meeting of high-powered committee set up by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to address the demands of the people of the region since its split from the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
After months of deliberation over the members, the committee had held its first meeting on December 4 under the chairmanship of MoS Home Nityanand Rai.
The invite from the MHA came a day ahead of the bandh call - Kargil and Leh Chalo march - on February 3, called by the Apex Body Leh (ABL) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), an amalgam of political, religious and social organisations in Ladakh. "Hope the meeting will be positive and productive," said Sajjad Kargili, a member of ABL. He added, "There is no change in the already announced programme on February 3."
