Anvee Bhutani, an Indian-origin student from Magdalen College at the University of Oxford has won the Student Union (SU) byelection for the 2021-22 academic year. Bhutani was declared as the winner on Thursday night.
Bhutani was the Co-Chair of Campaign for Racial Awareness and Equality (CRAE) at Oxford SU and President of the Oxford India Society.
Bhutani states in her manifesto that she will continue to lobby for lecture capture post-pandemic and work with the student press to increase engagement.

The vice-president elect in the team for the 2021-22 academic year is also of Indian-origin, Devika, as is trustee-elect Dhitee Goel.

LONDON: Anvee Bhutani, an Indian-origin Human Sciences student from Magdalen College at the University of Oxford, has pledged to fight for students rights in her role as the new president-elect of the Oxford Student Union (SU).
Bhutani, who was declared the winner at the end of a closely fought byelection at the Oxford SU on Thursday evening, said she felt humbled by the support she had received and excited about her plans for her upcoming term.

The four Oxford winners are among 51 UK grant recipients, a total surpassing that of any other country. UK researchers qualify for the grants because the UK is an “associated country” to the ERC under the Horizon Europe scheme. Writing on their website, the ERC describes the research as “for the benefit of all EU citizens”. The ERC further noted the importance of strong UK-EU ties, and told Cherwell “up to half” of those ERC Starting Grants in the UK are EU nationals.
