Summit County adaptive pro snowboarder and skateboarder Mike Minor will compete in Dew Tour’s adaptive skateboard competition next month in Des Moines, Iowa.
For the Frisco resident and 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Paralympic snowboard gold medalist, it’ll be his first summer Dew Tour after competing in the 2018 and 2020 winter Dew Tour para snowboarding competition. Minor also won a bronze medal in adaptive skateboarding at X Games Minneapolis in 2019.
The 2021 summer Dew Tour will be held May 20-23 and will include World Skate-sanctioned men’s and women’s skateboarding street and park competitions that will serve as the only U.S.-based global Olympic skateboard qualifying events for the 2021 Tokyo Games.
The Summit High School varsity girls volleyball team ended a 1-10 season Tuesday with a home loss to Eagle Valley.
The Tigers lost in straight sets 25-17, 25-17 and 25-15 in the final game for seniors Mackenzie Westenskow, Natalia Flores, Mya Nicholds and Olivia Brewer.
“I told them before the game, ‘Hey, you guys don’t really have anything to lose at this point,’” Tigers head coach Lex Zangari said. “’Just go out, have fun, swing hard and enjoy yourself, because you never know when will be the last time you play.’ And that’s very true, especially this year.”

A lingering knee injury wasn’t going to keep Summit High School volleyball senior Mackenzie Westenskow from not competing at her best on Saturday, April 17.
“She didn’t play like she was hurt,” Tigers head coach and playing alum Lex Zangari said.
On senior day at Summit High School, Westenskow led a collection of fellow seniors and younger up-and-coming players in a gritty effort to a 3-sets-to-1 loss to Central of Grand Junction.
Summit County on Wednesday shared a survey on social media asking people for their input on how to potentially solve parking and congestion issues in the area of Quandary Peak, one of the state’s most popular 14,000-foot mountains.
In the survey, the county describes the Quandary Peak area as including the trailheads and trails to Quandary Peak, McCullough Gulch and Blue Lakes.
The survey says the McCullough Gulch and Blue Lakes trailheads areas that have smaller parking lots than the main Quandary Peak trailhead have seen increases in visitor use over time, though it’s less visitation than Quandary.
